Hire Python Developers in India

Python developers who are already employed on our engineering team, available three ways: one person working in your team by the month, a dedicated Python team, or a fixed-scope build. Question the developer first. Once the contract is signed, the work begins inside 24 hours, and every commit goes to repositories your company holds.

quick answer

Hiring a Python developer in India from Digital Heroes takes three steps. Say which Python job you have: a Django app, an API, a data pipeline or an AI feature. Question the developer we put up for it. Then sign, and the developer starts inside 24 hours, which in practice is the next working day. Nobody is recruited for you after the deal, because the person is already our employee, and the repositories they commit to belong to you.

§ 01 · what you get

What a Python hire from us includes

The developer offered to you is already employed on our engineering team, which works from Delhi and Lucknow, with some mobile engineers in Sydney. Whoever you question in the interview is the same person who then sits in your standups and opens pull requests against your code. A doubt after that conversation costs nothing to raise: you have not signed, so nothing is owed.

Most Python systems need code that is not Python. A Django app needs screens, an API needs whatever calls it, and an AI feature needs somewhere for people to use it. When yours does, the developer has colleagues on the same team: Next.js and React for web front ends, React Native for mobile apps, and Node.js for the services that sit beside Python.

Five terms on every Python hire

A mutual NDAA one-page agreement, signed when the scoping call is booked, before any code or data changes hands
Your accounts, your codeThe repositories and cloud accounts are created under your organization; our developer is added as a collaborator, and you can revoke that access at any time
§ 02 · the job

Name the Python job first: web, API, data or AI

Write down the first month of work before you write the job ad. "Add a refunds flow to our Django store" and "move the nightly sales report out of spreadsheets into a scheduled pipeline" are both Python, yet they call for different libraries, different tests and usually a different person. Ask each candidate which of the four jobs above they have shipped to production, and how recently, and weigh that above their years of Python in general.

Four Python jobs, the developer each one calls for, what that developer should already have shipped, and where we describe the work
You are buildingHireThey should have shippedRead more

In our own builds, AI features and data work run on Python. Frameworks such as Django and FastAPI, and the date each Python release stops receiving security fixes, are covered on the custom Python development page, so this one keeps to hiring.

The tools a Python codebase in good order runs

Ask any candidate, ours included, which of these they use and why. A developer who has kept a Python system alive for a few years reaches for most of them without being asked.

§ 03 · engagement models

Three ways to bring a Python developer on, and who answers for the work

The deciding question is who reads the code before it merges. If your company has a technical lead who reviews pull requests, a developer placed in your team adds capacity for the least money. If nobody on your side can judge Python, pay instead for a team whose own lead answers for the result, or for a fixed-scope build, where the delivery risk inside the written scope is ours.

Python engagements compared: what arrives, whose review the code passes, how invoices work, and the situation each one suits
EngagementWhat arrivesCode reviewed byInvoicedChoose it when

Dedicated Python teamOur lead plus developers and QA, answerable for an agreed slice of the roadmapOur lead, measured against the roadmap you setEach month, typically for three months or longerMonths of roadmap lie ahead and no one on your staff reviews Python
Fixed-scope buildA paid two-week discovery sprint, then a single fixed price for the scope it writes downOur team, checked against that written scopeA fixed sum, agreed when discovery endsYou can describe the first version and want one number for it

Only the single developer starts inside 24 hours. Putting a whole team together takes longer, as the dedicated development team page sets out, and a fixed-scope build opens with discovery, not code. That discovery is billed separately, and it finishes with a fixed price for the build, or with advice to buy an off-the-shelf product that already does the job. Once the system is live, a retainer keeps a named team on its fixes, upgrades and integrations.

§ 04 · cost

Python rates in India, from three public sources

There is no Python price list on this site. We give a monthly figure for one developer after a call, when we know the job and the hours. The three outside sources below are there so you can hold any quote, ours among them, up against the market instead of trusting it.

Upwork puts the median rate for Python developers on its marketplace at $30 an hour, with typical rates between $20 and $40, drawn from earlier contracts around the world, with each rate settled between client and freelancer. Arc, a hiring network that screens its developers, says on its India Python page that general marketplaces list Python developers from as little as $10 an hour, and that the developers it places typically charge $60 to $100 or more.

For its 2026 cost survey, GoodFirms polled upwards of 100 software firms across September and October 2025, and India falls into two of its bands. Under $20 an hour, quoted by 12.5 percent of firms, is the band it ties to MVPs where cost counts for more than quality and security. Between $20 and $50, quoted by 56.3 percent, is the band it describes as value without giving up quality.

Public Python rate bands

Each figure is an hourly US dollar rate, read on 17 October 2026. Upwork and Arc report on individual developers; GoodFirms reports on software firms of every kind, not Python alone
SourceBandWhat it describes
Arc, on general marketplacesFrom about $10 an hourThe low end Arc reports on open freelance marketplaces
Upwork, Python developers$20 to $40 an hour, median $30Typical range on earlier contracts on its marketplace, all countries
Arc, its own Python developers$60 to $100 or more an hourWhat developers placed through Arc typically charge
GoodFirms, below $20Quoted by 12.5 percentSouth Asia including India, some African markets, and Eastern Europe's smaller hubs
GoodFirms, $20 to $50Quoted by 56.3 percentRegions including South Asia, Southeast Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe and Africa
GoodFirms, $100 to $250Quoted by 10.9 percentWestern Europe and North America

A month follows from the hours. At roughly 160 working hours, Upwork's typical $20 to $40 range comes to $3,200 to $6,400 for one full-time developer, and that buys the developer alone: nobody reviewing the code, nobody testing it. A quote well under that band usually means one of those jobs has been left for you to do.

Pricing a whole Python system rather than one developer's month? A focused first version of custom software typically costs $40,000 to $150,000, and a complex enterprise platform $250,000 to $500,000 or more. What moves a budget within those ranges is set out in the custom software cost guide, and the language is rarely the thing that does.

To run your own numbers, enter your hours in the free offshore development cost calculator and see them priced at offshore, nearshore and US rates side by side. The salary converter turns an hourly quote into a monthly or yearly figure on the hours and weeks you choose.

§ 05 · vetting

How to vet a Python developer: read the code, then ask six questions

Start with code, not conversation. An hour on a call mostly shows how well someone talks about Python; a repository shows the habits they fall back on when nobody is checking. Ask for one the candidate wrote and open three files: the dependency list, to see whether versions are pinned; a module they call central, to see whether its functions carry type hints a checker such as mypy accepts; and one test, to see whether it builds its own data.

Then put the six questions below. Each has a right answer that comes from running Python in production, and each links to the official documentation, so you can judge the answer without writing Python yourself.

  1. "A Django page has grown slower as the data grew, though its code has not changed. Where do you look first?" At the queries, before any code. Django's database access guide says to profile first: find out which queries a page runs and what each costs, with QuerySet.explain(), then add the indexes that profiling points to, which it calls the number one priority. A candidate who starts by rewriting the view has skipped the measuring.
  2. "Why should a price never be stored as a float?" Python's decimal documentation shows the problem: in binary floating point, 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 minus 0.3 is not zero, while in decimal it is exactly zero, which is why the documentation prefers decimal for accounting. Expect Decimal in Python, a DecimalField in Django, and a stated rule for when rounding happens.
  3. "Orders placed late in the evening in New York appear under the next day in a sales report. What do you check?" Whether the report groups by a date taken in UTC. With time zone support on, which is the default, Django stores datetimes in UTC and converts them to the user's zone for display. A good answer groups by date in the business's own time zone and keeps naive datetimes out of the code.
  4. "How would you add a unique, required column to a table that already holds rows?" Django's migration guide says a plain migration fails here, because the default is generated once and breaks the unique constraint. A good answer splits the change into steps that fill each row before the constraint is enforced.
  5. "Where does your Django project's secret key come from in production, and what is DEBUG set to there?" Django's deployment checklist says to keep the production key out of source control and load it from an environment variable or a file, and never to enable debug in production, because its error pages expose source code, settings and local variables. A strong answer adds that they run manage.py check --deploy against the production settings.
  6. "Which Python version does your last production project run, and until when does it get security fixes?" The Python developer guide's version table, read in October 2026, shows 3.10 reached end of life on 1 October 2026 and 3.11 gets security fixes until October 2027. A candidate who knows their own project's date, and has a plan for it, keeps an upgrade from turning into a rewrite.

If the answers hold up, pay for about three hours of work shaped like your product: an endpoint that takes an order with several lines, a discount code and a delivery country, and returns the total with tax, in Decimal, with tests. Then read what the tests cover: a zero quantity, an expired code, a rounding case that lands on half a cent. Someone who tests only the happy path tends to ship only that.

Put the same questions to the developer we propose. The interview happens before you sign, so an answer you do not like costs you nothing but the call.

§ 06 · code quality

How code quality is held when the developer works offshore

Distance does not lower code quality; missing review does. A Python developer committing to a repository nobody else reads will drift wherever they sit. The controls that hold quality are the same in Delhi as in Denver, so write them into the statement of work as checks a machine runs on every pull request, not as habits someone promises on a call.

Six controls to write into the statement of work for any Python developer, what each one catches and who or what runs it
ControlWhat it catchesRun by
Review by someone other than the authorWrong logic, missing permission checks, and shortcuts that cost more laterYour lead; on a dedicated team, ours
Type checks with mypyA value of the wrong type crossing a function boundaryThe pipeline, on every pull request
Lint and format with RuffStyle drift and common mistakes, kept out of human reviewThe pipeline, on every pull request
A pytest suite that runs offlineRegressions in the paths that cost money or trust when they breakThe pipeline, before every merge
pip-audit on dependenciesInstalled packages with a published vulnerabilityThe pipeline, on a schedule
Pinned versions and a lock fileA deploy that breaks because a library shipped a new release overnightThe repository itself

Permission checks deserve their own line in every review. GitHub's Octoverse 2025 report found broken access control had overtaken injection as the most common CodeQL alert, and that it now leads in Python. GitHub links part of that to AI-assisted coding, which can produce endpoints that look correct but skip the authorization check.

Where the pipeline is ours to set up, on a fixed-scope build or a dedicated team, a CI/CD pipeline running automated tests, plus a way to roll back, exists before anything is released to production, and significant choices are written down as architecture decision records. When one developer joins your team, the pipeline is yours, so these checks belong in the statement of work.

In the systems we build, keys stay on the server and row-level security in PostgreSQL decides who may read which record. Our CTO owns the engineering standard these checks belong to.

No SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification is claimed here. If a vendor on your list says it holds one, ask for the report itself rather than the logo.

§ 07 · the first two weeks

The first fourteen days of a Python hire

Signing is the slow part; the start is not. The developer begins within 24 hours of signature (the next working day), and that first day is spent getting access. Anything they cannot reach becomes the first delay, so have these ready: the repository, the steps to run the app locally, the environment variables, a copy of staging data with personal records removed, and the CI settings.

  1. Day 1, a running copy. The developer clones the repository, installs the pinned dependencies, runs the app and the test suite locally, and writes down what failed and what was missing.
  2. Days 2 to 5, one small change all the way through. A minor ticket goes from branch to tests, review, merge and a staging deploy, so the route is proven while little rides on it.
  3. Week 2, a ticket that matters. A real backlog item, sized to finish within the week and shipped with tests. Gaps the day one notes found in the pipeline, such as missing type checks or no dependency audit, each go in as a separate pull request.
  4. Day 14, a short written report. It covers what merged, what held the work up, the fragile parts of the codebase and the upgrades coming due, with the Python and Django versions in use checked against their security support dates.

A lone developer only works if somebody on your side reads those pull requests. Without that reviewer, take the dedicated team, where review is our lead's job and no build reaches you until our QA team has tested it.

§ 08 · hours and contracts

Hours, contracts and code ownership for buyers outside India

Every Indian city sets its clocks to Indian Standard Time, UTC+05:30, and there is no daylight saving, so the gap to your city changes twice a year on your side only. Engineering in Delhi and Lucknow keeps hours facing New York. New York office hours run from 9 AM until 6 PM Eastern, Monday to Friday, with same-day replies.

The time in Delhi when it is 9 AM in four client cities, with each city on daylight saving time and on standard time
9 AM inDelhi, city on daylight timeDelhi, city on standard time
New York6:30 PM7:30 PM
Chicago7:30 PM8:30 PM
Los Angeles9:30 PM10:30 PM
London1:30 PM2:30 PM

Name the daily overlap in the statement of work, in both time zones, and check your own city on the free time zone planner. Past those hours, a production emergency is handled from Delhi or Sydney, at any time of day, and an after-hours message is seen within one to two hours. For the full date-by-date picture, including Indian holidays, see our page on custom software development in India.

You contract with one of two companies, named in the MSA: Digital Heroes Technologies Pvt Ltd in India or Digital Heroesco LLC in the US, and New York law is the usual default for US work. Booking a scoping call triggers the one-page mutual NDA. If the system will hold patient records, Digital Heroes signs a BAA whenever it handles PHI.

Full payment moves ownership to you, under the MSA, of everything produced for your project alone: code, designs and custom assets. We keep tooling and libraries that predate your project or were built for general reuse. From the first commit, your organization holds the repositories and the cloud accounts, and you decide how long our developer keeps access. Strict work-for-hire terms, with no portfolio rights for us, can be added to the SOW at a price quoted before you sign.

§ 09 · who you hire

Who employs the developer, and how to check us

Every Python developer we place is our own employee; we do not go looking for a freelancer once you sign. This page names none of them. The interview introduces you to the developer put forward for your work, and it is the right moment to ask which Python systems they have shipped.

Our CTO, Divyansh Singh, leads engineering from the Lucknow office and owns the architecture and the engineering standard. Delhi, the engineering headquarters, houses the backend, QA and DevOps teams. Leadership and the US account directors work from the New York office at 1140 Broadway, which has no engineers.

None of this needs to be taken on our word. Clutch shows 5.0 from 66 verified reviews (checked 13 October 2026). Dun & Bradstreet lists us under DUNS number 650878346, and the UN Global Marketplace lists us as a Tier 1 supplier. For the legal entities and each office, with a way to verify every one, see our custom software development company page.

There is no Python case study on our site yet, which is why no Python client and no Python result appears here. The three builds we do show, Planivo, SpeedyPrint and AirTrainr, are described on that company page, and none of them is offered on this page as Python work.

§ 10 · where to look

Four places to look, and where each one fails

Buyers searching for a Python developer in India tend to land on one of four routes, and every one of them is right for someone. The table is our judgment of how each usually plays out, not survey results, and its final column names the situation where each goes wrong, our own route included.

Four routes to a Python developer in India, set side by side: an open marketplace, a vetted network, your own employee, and a company with Python developers on staff
RouteHow it worksWho checks the workWhen work startsDoes not fit
Open marketplaceYou post a job and choose from the proposalsYou doOnce a freelancer acceptsA buyer with no one to read Python, or a job needing design, backend and testing together
Vetted networkThe network screens developers and introduces a shortlistYou do, after the network's screeningOnce you are matched and have interviewedA project that needs a team answerable for delivery, not one person's hours
Your own employee in IndiaYou recruit directly, then employ through an Indian entity or an employer of recordYour own engineering leadAfter recruiting, and after the candidate serves noticeA project of a few weeks, or a buyer with no legal entity in India
A company with Python developers on staff, such as usThe company proposes a developer from its own team; you interview and signYour lead, or the company's lead on a dedicated teamWith us, within 24 hours of signingA buyer for whom the hourly rate is the only test

To put money on it, the in-house vs agency cost calculator, which is free, runs a direct hire, an agency and a freelancer over identical project hours with overheads counted. If you want a whole team rather than one Python developer, read how hiring a bespoke software house works, and how our offshore software development team runs agile delivery for US clients.

§ 11 · fit

When a Python developer from us is the wrong hire

We would rather lose the work than place the wrong person, so in these four situations the first call ends with a referral elsewhere.

  • Your engineers have to be US-based. Our engineers are in India, apart from some mobile engineers in Sydney, so a contract or security policy demanding engineers based in the US excludes us. Our offshore software development companies ranking compares where other firms' engineers work.
  • Most of the work is on screen. When most of the effort goes into a dashboard, an editor or a booking flow, and the server only stores and returns data, your hours go on front-end work rather than Python. Our web team builds that kind of product in Next.js and React, where the same TypeScript types describe the data on both sides.
  • The work ends within a week. Cleaning up one customer spreadsheet before an import, or converting a folder of files once, is a fixed-price task for a freelancer. A monthly engagement charges for continuity you will not use.
  • Only the hourly rate counts. Shops that win on rate will quote below us, and it is better you hear that from us now.

For anything else, a Django developer on a live system or a whole team building version one, the free 30-minute call is where it starts.

§ 12 · sources

Each outside number and technical statement on this page rests on a page listed here. All were read on 17 October 2026 unless marked otherwise; every link opens the original publisher.

§ 13 · questions

Python hiring questions, answered

How much does it cost to hire a Python developer?

Upwork lists a median of $30 an hour for Python developers, with most rates between $20 and $40. GoodFirms' 2026 survey places South Asia, India included, in its under $20 and $20 to $50 bands, the second quoted by 56.3 percent of firms. Developers placed through Arc's screened network typically charge $60 to $100 or more. At about 160 hours, $20 to $40 an hour is $3,200 to $6,400 a month. Our own rate comes after a call.

Is Python still in demand in 2026?

Yes. GitHub's Octoverse 2025 report ranks Python second on GitHub by contributors, after TypeScript passed it in August 2025, and calls it dominant in AI and data science. The same report found Python behind nearly half of all new AI repositories, and India added more than 5.2 million developers to GitHub in 2025, more than any other country.

Will AI replace Python devs?

Not the part a buyer pays for. Octoverse 2025 found that 80 percent of new developers on GitHub use Copilot in their first week, so AI already writes a lot of Python. The same report found broken access control became the top CodeQL alert and now leads in Python, a pattern GitHub connects to AI-assisted code that skips authorization checks. Someone still has to review the code, test it and answer for it.

Where should the search for a Python developer in India start?

Name the Python job first: a Django app, an API, a data pipeline or an AI feature. Then pick a route: an open marketplace, a screened network, your own employee through an Indian entity or an employer of record, or a company with Python developers on staff. Read a repository the candidate wrote, ask questions with checkable answers, and keep the code in your own organization from the first commit.

How fast can a Python developer start?

From us, inside 24 hours of signing, so the next working day. The first day is spent on access and getting a local copy running; have the repository, the environment variables and scrubbed staging data ready. Assembling a dedicated team takes longer, and a fixed-scope build starts with two weeks of paid discovery before any code is written.

Is a Django developer the same as a Python developer?

No. Django is one framework written in Python, beside Flask and FastAPI, and a Django developer has spent their time inside its conventions: models and the migrations that change them, the admin site, forms and class-based views. A developer whose Python has gone into analysis or scripting can be strong and still need weeks to learn those. If your product already runs on Django, bring a Django question from the vetting section to the first call.

Can your developer take over Python code another team wrote?

Usually, yes. The first fortnight then goes on understanding it: getting it running locally, running its tests, and writing up what works, what is missing, and which parts would be cheaper to rebuild than to fix. The Python and Django versions are checked against their support dates as well. You read that assessment before agreeing to anything bigger, and whether to carry on is your decision.
