How to use PDF Merge

This tool combines several PDF files into one. It uses the pdf-lib library, served from this site, to copy every page of each file into a new document in the order you set. Use it to join scanned pages, put a cover letter in front of a report, or send one attachment instead of five.

Step by step

   Add your PDFs

   Drop PDF files on the box that says Drop PDF files here, or click it to choose files. You can pick several at once. On a keyboard, focus the box and press Enter or Space. Files that are not PDFs are skipped.

   Check the list

   Each file gets a numbered row with its name, page count and size. The line above the list shows the number of files and the total page count. Use + Add more to add files later.

   Set the order

   Files are merged from the top row down. Drag a row to a new place, or use the Move up and Move down arrow buttons on each row. The numbers update to show the new order.

   Remove what you do not need

   Press the cross button (Remove) on a row to drop that file. Press Clear to empty the whole list and start over.

   Merge and download

   Press Merge & download. The button shows Merging while it works, then your browser saves the result as merged.pdf. A message confirms how many PDFs were merged.

Reading the result

• The merged file holds every page of every file, in row order. Three files of 2, 5 and 1 pages give one PDF of 8 pages.
• The page total above the list is the page count of the file you will get, so check it before you merge.
• Pages are copied as they are. Page size, orientation and content stay the same, and pages are not resized or turned into images.

Tips and common mistakes

• If a Could not read message names a file, that file was not added. It is often password protected or damaged. Remove the password in the app that made it, then add it again.
• Only whole files can be merged. To use some pages of a file, split or trim it first and add the part you want.
• Only the pages are copied into the new file, so bookmarks from the source files are not carried over.
• If you see that the PDF engine is still loading, wait a second and add the files again.

Privacy and limits

Your PDFs are read and merged by your browser and are never uploaded. The pdf-lib library is loaded from this site, not from an outside CDN. Nothing is saved, and the list empties when you leave the page. There is no file limit in the tool, but every file is held in memory while you work, so many large PDFs can be slow on a phone or an older computer.
