Brand identity, New York.

We work with three types of NYC brands: luxury-fashion houses evolving into DTC, financial-services firms needing a SoFi-or-Ramp aesthetic, and emerging media properties building editorial systems. They all answer to the same bar: typography-forward, photography-centered, restrained on motion and illustration.

We build these editorial brand systems from our NoMad HQ, opening every engagement with a half-day to two-day in-person Manhattan workshop. For the full NYC context, all industries, and our office map, see our New York agency page. This page covers deliverables, discovery process, and timeline.

in short
  • We calibrate to Gin Lane, Red Antler, COLLINS: editorial, restrained, photography-forward.
  • Built for luxury-fashion-to-DTC, financial-services, and emerging media brands.
  • Six deliverables: logo system, type scale, color tokens, photography direction, brand book, full file ownership on payment.
  • Every engagement starts with a half-day to two-day NoMad workshop, then weekly Friday demos on Eastern Time.
  • Brand-plus-site takes 12-16 weeks. Week 6 locks the brand book so your site design has a stable system.

Eastern Time. The same clock as our New York HQ.

We run this work from our NoMad HQ on Eastern Time, the same timezone as you. That means a full working-day overlap and in-person sessions whenever you need them. The clock below shows our shared working window.

Gin Lane adjacent. Editorial, restrained, finished.

We calibrate to shops like Gin Lane, Red Antler, COLLINS, Athletics, Ueno, and Project M. These are the teams behind Warby Parker's original book, Harry's system, and the modern editorial-DTC playbook. That peer set shapes everything.

Our work is typography-forward. Photography-centered. Restrained on motion and illustration. The brand book reads like a magazine style guide, not a slide deck.

We're not right for illustration-heavy consumer brands or novelty-first startups. We are right for brands that need to look credible in Manhattan showrooms, in Vogue editorial photography, and on a Bloomberg terminal all at once.

Logo system. Type. Color. Book.

Every NYC brand engagement ships six deliverables: a responsive logo system, a four-tier type scale, accessibility-verified color tokens, photography direction, a magazine-style brand book, and full copyright transfer with source files.

Logo system

Primary mark + responsive variant + monogram + favicon stack. SVG, PNG, PDF, EPS at every size. Three color treatments (full, black, white).

Color tokens

Hex, RGB, CMYK, Pantone. Accessibility-verified pairings meeting WCAG AA minimum; AAA where the brand tolerates it.

Photography direction

Mood boards, composition rules, lighting and retouching guidance. For NYC brands we frequently partner with a dedicated photographer; the direction document prepares the brief.

Brand book

Voice and tone guide, usage rules, incorrect-use examples, vendor onboarding notes. One document your agencies, photographers, and contractors can all work from.

File ownership + handover

Full copyright transfer on payment. Source Figma and Illustrator files. Two-week post-delivery support window for minor fixes.

Manhattan discovery. Then weekly demos.

We start with a half-day to two-day in-person workshop in Manhattan. It can happen at your office, our NoMad HQ, or neutral space depending on team size.

The agenda covers brand archetype, audience personas, a competitor-audit walkthrough, and visual-territory exploration. You'll leave with direction to develop.

Weeks 1-2: Discovery + direction. You'll have an in-person NoMad workshop, then a direction-selection session at week 2-3. Recent projects: luxury-fashion rebrands in NoMad and the Garment District, fintech systems in Hudson Square, media and membership brands in TriBeCa.

Weeks 3-6: System build. Logo, type, color, photography direction, brand book. Weekly Friday demos on Eastern Time. At week 6 the brand book locks so your site design has a stable system to build from.

Weeks 6-16 (brand-plus-site). If you're adding a site build, it runs in parallel from week 4. Launch and QA happen at weeks 14-16. We always launch Tuesday ET, never Friday, with social, email, and press rollout scheduled together. Call +1 (917) 998 8141 or book a 30-minute NYC brand call to start.

a New York brand pitch

"A New York brand has to look credible in a NoMad showroom, in Vogue editorial, and on a Bloomberg terminal at the same time. That is the bar we design to, in person, from a few blocks away."

§ FAQ · questions

Five answers on NYC brand identity.

What does a New York brand identity engagement include?

Six deliverables. A logo system with primary mark, responsive variant, monogram, and clear-space specs. A four-tier type scale with web-ready or licensed fonts. Color tokens in hex, RGB, CMYK, and Pantone with accessibility-verified pairings. Photography direction guide. A brand book covering voice, usage rules, and vendor onboarding. All files in SVG, PNG, PDF, plus source Figma and Illustrator. Full copyright transfers to you on payment.

How does New York brand work differ from non-NYC work?

Two material differences. First, the audience. NYC brands ship to people reading the New Yorker, Bloomberg, and the Financial Times daily. They compare your work against editorial outlets with century-long typography programs. The design bar is higher. Generic has no tolerance here.

Second, the competitor set. Gin Lane, Red Antler, Ueno, Athletics, Project M, and COLLINS set the NYC reference point. That means restraint, editorial typography, and photography-forward systems over illustration-heavy branding.

Do you do trademark research for New York brand projects?

Yes, we do preliminary clearance research during discovery. That includes USPTO TESS searches, common-law searches, and an international check if you're likely to sell cross-border.

Actual trademark filing is outside our scope. We partner with NYC intellectual-property attorneys for that. IP law is adversarial and needs a lawyer's stake in the outcome. We provide the research; the law firm handles filing and opposition.

Can we launch the brand alongside a new New York website?

Yes, and it's the most common shape for NYC new brands and rebrands. A brand-plus-site project runs 12-16 weeks. Weeks 1-6 focus on brand identity. Weeks 4-14 run site design and build in parallel. Weeks 14-16 handle launch and QA.

The brand book locks at week 6 so your site design has a stable system to build from. Launch always happens Tuesday ET with social, email, and press rollout scheduled together.

What does in-person brand discovery look like in New York?

A half-day to two-day workshop at your NYC office or our NoMad HQ, depending on team size and brand scope.

We cover brand archetype, audience personas, competitor audits, visual-territory exploration, and rough direction sketches. A second in-person session at week 2-3 handles direction selection. After that, remaining iteration happens remotely with weekly Friday demos on Eastern Time.
