Weighted scoring, the honest way

List your options as rows and what matters as columns, give each criterion a weight from 1–10, then score every cell. The matrix multiplies scores by weights, totals each option and normalizes it to a 0–100 score so different setups stay comparable. The winner is highlighted, the chart ranks everyone, and the sensitivity note tells you whether the decision is solid or a coin-flip — plus which criterion could flip it. § 03 · how to use it

Four steps, no manual.

  1. Pick a template (jobs, laptops, vendors, features, apartments) or start blank — no signup needed.
  2. Add your options as rows (e.g. Offer A, Offer B) and your criteria as columns (e.g. Salary, Growth, Location).
  3. Set a weight from 1 to 10 for each criterion, then score every cell on your chosen scale.
  4. Read the ranked chart and verdict, then export CSV, download JSON, or copy a text summary.

Frequently asked questions.

Is the Decision Matrix free?
Yes — completely free for everyone. No sign-up, no account and no usage limits.
Is it private? Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No upload, ever. The matrix runs entirely in your browser on your own device — options, criteria and scores are saved in localStorage and never leave your computer.
How is the score calculated?
Each cell score is multiplied by its criterion's weight (1–10), totals are summed per option, then normalized to 0–100 against the maximum possible score — so matrices with different scales and weights stay comparable.
What do the “close call” and “clear win” verdicts mean?
The verdict looks at the gap between the top two options: under 2 points is a statistical tie, under 6 a close call, under 15 a solid lead, and 15+ a clear win. It also names the criterion where the runner-up is strongest — the one most likely to flip the result.
Can I save more than one decision?
Yes — keep as many matrices as you like and switch between them with the Matrix dropdown. Each is saved in this browser automatically; use Export JSON for a backup you control, and Import JSON to restore it anywhere.
What happens if I change the scoring scale later?
Nothing breaks — existing scores are rescaled proportionally to the new maximum (0–5, 0–10 or 0–100), so the ranking is preserved exactly.
