Why zip & unzip in the browser?

Online “unzip” sites upload your archive to their servers , risky for contracts, source code or personal photos. This tool opens and builds ZIP files entirely on your own device, works offline once loaded, and lets you preview text and images before extracting anything. One honest limit: password-protected (encrypted) ZIPs can’t be opened in-browser , for those, use a desktop archiver like 7-Zip. No sign-up, no page limits, free forever.

  • Open and inspect any .zip instantly , see every file, its size and its modified date before extracting a thing.
  • Preview text and images inside the archive , read code, notes or photos in place, no full extraction needed.
  • Extract exactly what you want , download single files, re-zip a selection, or save chosen files separately.
  • Create a new ZIP from any mix of files , drop them in or add a whole folder with its structure intact.
  • Pick a compression level , store, fast, balanced or maximum, with a live progress bar as it builds.

Four steps, no manual.

  1. To extract: stay on the Extract a ZIP tab and drop or browse for a .zip. The file list appears instantly.
  2. Preview or pick files , click Preview on any text or image file to inspect it, or check the files you want to keep.
  3. Download your selection , Download selected (.zip) repacks them, or Selected as separate files saves each one individually.
  4. To create: switch to the Create a ZIP tab, drop your files or add a folder, set a name and compression level, then click Create & download .zip.

Frequently asked questions.

Is the ZIP Extractor & Creator free?
Yes , completely free for everyone. No sign-up, no account and no usage limits, for both extracting and creating archives.
Is it private? Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No upload, ever. The tool runs entirely in your browser on your own device , your archive is read, previewed and repacked locally, and nothing is sent to a server.
Can I open a password-protected ZIP?
No , encrypted ZIPs cannot be opened in-browser. The JavaScript engine does not support decryption, and your archive will never be sent to a server to work around that. Use 7-Zip, WinRAR or your OS archiver for encrypted archives.
What compression levels are available when creating a ZIP?
Four levels: Store (no compression, fastest), Fast (light compression), Balanced (the recommended default) and Maximum (smallest file, slowest). Already-compressed files like JPG or MP4 barely shrink at any level.
Can I keep a folder’s structure when zipping it?
Yes. Use Add a whole folder in the Create tab and the entire folder tree , every subfolder and file path , is preserved inside the archive exactly as it sits on disk.
Does it work offline?
Yes , once the page and its ZIP library have loaded, extracting and creating archives keep working without a connection, because all logic runs locally.
