Most “free” voice recorders upload your audio to a server or lock features behind a signup. This one uses your browser's built-in MediaRecorder, so every take stays entirely on your device, private, install-free and free forever. Record as many takes as you like, monitor the live level meter as you speak, pause and resume mid-take, then download each file with one click.
§ 02 · what you can do
Everything a recorder should do.
- Record unlimited takes straight from your microphone, right in the browser.
- Watch levels in real time with a live RMS meter bar so you know the mic is picking you up.
- Pause and resume any recording without losing what you already captured.
- Download each take as a WebM, OGG or M4A file, whatever your browser supports natively.
- Delete takes individually or clear them all at once when you're done.

§ 03 · how to use it
Four steps, no manual.
- Click Record and allow microphone access when your browser prompts you.
- Watch the live level meter move to confirm your mic is picking up audio; use Pause and Resume as needed.
- Click Stop when you're finished, your take appears in the list instantly with its duration and file size.
- Hit Download on any take to save the audio file, or Delete to discard it.

Frequently asked questions.
Is the Voice Recorder free?
Yes, completely free for everyone. No sign-up, no account and no usage limits. Record as many takes as you want.
Is it private? Is my audio uploaded anywhere?
No upload, ever. Recording uses your browser's built-in MediaRecorder, so every take stays on your own device and nothing is sent to any server.
Why does it ask for microphone permission?
Browsers require your explicit permission before any page can access the mic. The permission is only used to capture audio locally while you record, it grants no access to a server. Recording also needs a secure context (an https page or localhost).
What audio format does it save?
The format depends on your browser. Chrome and Edge save WebM (Opus), Firefox saves OGG, and Safari saves M4A. All of them play in any modern media player.
Will my takes survive if I refresh the page?
No, takes live only in the current page for privacy, so refreshing or closing the tab clears them. Download any take you want to keep before you leave.
