§ 03 · how to use it

Five steps, no manual.

  1. Paste your list of names, one per line, into the Names box — duplicates are ignored by default.
  2. Choose Number of groups or Group size, set the count, and pick a label style.
  3. Optionally add keep-apart pairs or enable Pick a leader in each group.
  4. Click Generate teams, then reshuffle as often as you like — the last three shuffles stay in the history panel.
  5. Copy, download as .txt or .csv, or print your teams straight from the results card.

Frequently asked questions.

Is the Random Team Generator free?
Yes — completely free for everyone. No sign-up, no account and no usage limits.
Is it private? Are my names uploaded anywhere?
No upload, ever. The generator runs entirely in your browser on your own device. Your name list is saved locally in this browser so it's there next time, and it never leaves your computer.
How random and fair are the teams?
The shuffle is a Fisher–Yates shuffle driven by your browser's cryptographic random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues) with rejection sampling, so every arrangement is equally likely — no modulo bias, no favorites.
Can I stop certain people from ending up together?
Yes — add keep-apart pairs like "Alice & Bob, Carlos & Dina". The generator retries up to 400 shuffles to separate them and shows a clear warning if the group sizes make it impossible.
What happens when names don't divide evenly?
Leftover people are spread evenly across groups, so team sizes never differ by more than one — no tiny last group. In group-size mode the extras are distributed the same way.
Can I export or print the teams?
Yes — copy any single group or all of them to the clipboard, download the result as plain text (.txt) or a spreadsheet-ready CSV with a Leader column, or print a clean sheet that shows only the teams.
