How to use the Screenshot Beautifier

This tool places a screenshot on a colored backdrop with padding, rounded corners and a soft drop shadow, ready for slides, social posts, docs or a product page. It draws everything on a canvas in your browser, shows a live preview, and exports a PNG at twice the preview size. It is for anyone sharing screenshots who wants them to look finished without opening a design app.

Step by step

  1. Add a screenshot

    Drop an image on the card that says Drop a screenshot here, or click it to browse. JPG, PNG and WebP all work. The preview and the controls appear as soon as the image loads.

  2. Pick a background

    Under background, click one of the ten gradient swatches (hover to see names such as dusk, ocean or gold), or choose Solid color and set it with the solid color picker, or choose Transparent for a PNG with no backdrop. The first gradient is selected at the start.

  3. Choose an aspect ratio

    Under aspect ratio, Auto wraps the backdrop evenly around the screenshot. 16:9, 1:1, 4:3 and 4:5 widen or heighten the backdrop to that shape so the image fits a slide, a square post or a portrait post. The screenshot is never cropped.

  4. Adjust the sliders

    Padding sets the space around the screenshot, from 0 to 30% of its longer side (default 12%). Corner radius rounds the screenshot corners from 0 to 64px (default 14px). Shadow blur (0 to 90px, default 40px) and Shadow opacity (0 to 80%, default 35%) control the drop shadow. Set either shadow slider to 0 to remove it.

  5. Save or copy the result

    Press Download 2× PNG to save the file, or Copy to put the image on your clipboard so you can paste it into another app. Press Replace image to load a different screenshot with the same settings.

Reading the result

  • The line under the buttons gives the preview size and the export size, for example Preview 1588 × 1108 px · export 2× = 3176 × 2216 px for a 1280 × 800 screenshot with 12% padding. Because the padding is rounded after doubling, the saved file can be a pixel or two smaller than the export size shown, 3174 × 2214 px in this example.
  • The preview is drawn at the screenshot's own pixel size and the export doubles every measurement, including padding, corner radius and shadow, so the saved PNG looks the same as the preview at twice the size.
  • The downloaded file keeps your original file name with -beautified added, for example dashboard-beautified.png.

Tips and common mistakes

  • The 2× export enlarges the screenshot rather than adding detail. For the sharpest result, start from a screenshot taken at full resolution, such as one from a high-density display.
  • Padding is a share of the screenshot's longer side, so the same setting gives a similar look on small and large images.
  • With Transparent, only the backdrop becomes see-through. The shadow stays, and any transparent parts of the screenshot itself show as white, because the tool draws a white rounded backing under the image.
  • Copy needs a browser that can put images on the clipboard. If you see a message saying the clipboard is not supported or blocked, use Download 2× PNG instead.
  • The 4:5 ratio suits portrait social posts and 16:9 suits slides and video thumbnails.

Privacy and limits

The screenshot is read and composited by your own browser on a canvas. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is saved, so closing the tab or pressing Replace image clears it.

Frequently asked questions.

Is Screenshot Beautifier free?
Yes, completely free for everyone. No sign-up, no account and no usage limits.
Is it private? Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Screenshot Beautifier runs entirely in your browser on your own device, so your image never leaves your computer and nothing is uploaded to a server.
Why does the export say 2×?
The preview is drawn at 1× to stay fast, but the download re-renders the identical layout at twice the resolution. That gives you a crisp, retina-ready PNG, the preview dimensions and the exported dimensions are both shown under the buttons.
Can I keep a transparent background?
Yes. Choose the transparent preset and the PNG exports with a real alpha channel, padding, rounded corners and the drop shadow are preserved so you can drop it onto any design later.
Does Copy work in every browser?
Copy uses the browser's async Clipboard API to place a PNG on your clipboard. Most modern browsers support it; if yours doesn't (or blocks it), the tool tells you and you can use Download 2× PNG instead.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Once the page has loaded, beautifying and exporting keep working without a connection, because all the compositing runs locally in your browser.
