How to use Photo Filters

Photo Filters applies brightness, contrast, saturation, grayscale, sepia, hue and blur adjustments to a photo and lets you download the result at its original size. The preview uses your browser's CSS filters, and the download redraws the same filter settings onto a full resolution canvas. It suits anyone who wants a quick look or a consistent tone on product shots, social posts or blog images without installing an editor.

Step by step

   Load a photo

   Drop an image on the card that says Drop a photo here, or click the card to pick a file. JPG, PNG and WebP all work. The editor opens as soon as the image loads, with every setting at its default.

   Try a preset

   Click Original, B&W, Vintage, Warm, Cool, Vivid or Fade. A preset sets all seven sliders at once to fixed values; it does not stack on top of your own changes.

   Fine tune the sliders

   Brightness and Contrast run from 0 to 200 (100 is unchanged), Saturation from 0 to 300 (100 is unchanged), Grayscale and Sepia from 0 to 100, Hue rotate from 0 to 360 degrees and Blur from 0 to 20 pixels. Moving any slider clears the preset highlight.

   Pick the export format

   Under export format choose PNG (lossless) for the best quality, JPG (smaller) for photos you will share, or WebP (modern) for the web. JPG and WebP are saved at 92 percent quality.

   Download, reset or start again

   Press Download image to save the file as your original name plus -filtered, at the photo's original width and height. Reset returns every slider to its default, and New photo takes you back to the drop area.

Reading the sliders

• The number beside each slider is its current value. At the defaults (100, 100, 100, 0, 0, 0, 0) the photo is unchanged.
• The presets are fixed recipes. B&W, for example, is Brightness 105, Contrast 110 and Grayscale 100; Vintage is Brightness 105, Contrast 95, Saturation 85 and Sepia 45.
• Hue rotate shifts every color around the color wheel, so 180 turns colors roughly into their opposites. Cool uses a Hue rotate of 200 together with a small contrast and saturation lift.

Tips and common mistakes

• Blur is measured in pixels of the image. A large photo is shown scaled down in the preview, so blur looks stronger on screen than in the full size download. Check the downloaded file before relying on it.
• JPG has no transparency. If your image has transparent areas, export as PNG or WebP to keep them.
• If the download comes out without the filters, your browser may not support filters on canvas. Try a current version of Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
• Loading a new photo resets all sliders, so download the current one first.

Privacy and limits

The photo is opened and processed by your browser on this page. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is saved, so closing the tab clears it. The only file created is the one you choose to download.
