Text out of a PDF, without the upload

Most “free” extractors send your document to a server first. This one reads the file entirely on your device. Drop a PDF and it pulls the selectable text straight out of the page structure, grouping characters back into visual lines by position. Choose flowing text to rejoin paragraphs and merge words split across a hyphenated line break, or preserve lines to keep the original line-by-line layout. Extract just the pages you need with a range like 1-5, 8, pick how each page break is marked, search the result with live highlighting and a match count, copy any single page or the whole thing, and download a .txt named after your file. Instant, fully private, offline-capable once loaded. No sign-up, no size limits, free forever.

§ 02 · what you can do

Everything a text extractor should do.

  • Extract text from any PDF instantly — no upload, no account, no size limit.
  • Pick a page range like 1-5 or 8, 12 to pull text from just the pages you need.
  • Choose the layout — flowing paragraphs (with hyphenated line breaks merged) or preserved original lines.
  • Search the result with live highlighting, a match count and optional case sensitivity.
  • Copy one page or all of it, and control how each page break is marked in the output.
  • Download a .txt file named after your PDF, ready to paste into any editor.
§ 03 · how to use it

Five steps, no manual.

  1. Drop your PDF onto the zone, or click to browse. It never leaves your device.
  2. Optionally set a page range, pick a layout mode and choose a separator style.
  3. Watch the combined text and per-page cards appear as each page is read.
  4. Use the search box to find words, with live highlighting and a match count.
  5. Copy a single page or all text, or click Download .txt to save the result.
§ 04 · faq

Frequently asked questions.

Is the PDF to Text tool free?
Yes — completely free for everyone. No sign-up, no account and no usage limits.
Is it private? Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No upload, ever. The whole thing runs in your browser on your own device — your PDF and the extracted text never leave your computer and nothing is sent to a server.
Does it work offline?
Yes — once the page and its PDF engine have loaded, extraction happens locally, so it keeps working without a connection.
Why does a page come back empty or with no text?
The page is almost certainly a scan — an image of text with no underlying text layer. This tool reads selectable text only; a scanned page has none to read. You would need optical character recognition (OCR) to convert the picture of the words back into actual text.
What is the difference between flowing text and preserve lines?
Flowing text rejoins lines back into paragraphs, using the vertical spacing to guess where each paragraph ends, and can merge words that were split by a hyphen at a line break — best for reading and reuse. Preserve lines keeps every original line break exactly as laid out — better for tables, code or poetry.
Do I need to install anything or create an account?
No. Just open the page and start extracting — there is no software to install and no account to create.
