Image to Text (OCR). Words out of pixels, privately.

Pull the text out of a photo, scan or screenshot into editable words. The recognition engine runs entirely on your device — your image is never uploaded to any server.

A free online tool by Digital Heroes
Drop an image or screenshot or click to browse — JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF Files never leave your browser · you can also paste with Ctrl / ⌘ + V

Heads up: the first time you extract text, your browser downloads the OCR engine plus your chosen language (~10–15 MB). After that it runs fully on your device, even offline. Nothing is ever sent to a server.

Why run OCR in the browser?

Most “free” OCR sites upload your documents to a server and cap how many pages you can scan. This tool runs the recognition engine directly on your machine — completely private, with no page limit — and it works offline once the engine is cached. Copy and .txt export are free, in every supported language.

§ 02 · what you can do

Everything the tool reads for you.

  • Extract text from any photo or scan without uploading it — the OCR runs on your own device.
  • Paste a screenshot straight in with Ctrl / ⌘ + V and turn it into editable text instantly.
  • Choose your language — English, Spanish, French or German recognition built in.
  • Edit the extracted text in the output box, with live word and character counts, before you save it.
  • Copy to clipboard or download a .txt file named after your original image.
  • Work offline after the one-time engine download, with no data ever leaving your device.
§ 03 · how to use it

Four steps, no manual.

  1. Drop an image onto the upload area, click to browse, or paste a screenshot with Ctrl / ⌘ + V.
  2. Pick the language of the text in your image from the dropdown.
  3. Click Extract text and watch the progress bar as the engine loads (first run only) and reads.
  4. Edit the result if needed, then Copy it or Download .txt. Your data stays on your device.
§ 04 · faq

Frequently asked questions.

Is Image to Text (OCR) free?
Yes — completely free for everyone. No sign-up, no account and no page or usage limits.
Is it private? Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. The recognition engine runs entirely in your browser on your own device. Your images never leave your computer and nothing is sent to a server.
Does it work offline?
Yes. The first time you extract text your browser downloads the OCR engine and language (a one-time ~10–15 MB). After that it is cached and works fully offline for the languages you have used.
Which languages and file types are supported?
English, Spanish, French and German recognition are built in — each a small one-time download. You can load JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF images, or paste a screenshot directly from your clipboard.
Why is some text wrong, and can I fix it?
OCR accuracy depends on the image — sharp, high-contrast, upright text reads best; blurry or skewed photos are harder. The result appears in an editable box with a confidence estimate, so you can correct anything before you copy or download it.
Do I need to install anything or create an account?
No. Just open the page and start using it — no installation and no account required.
