Slicing a banner into a 3×3 grid by hand is fiddly, one pixel off and the seams don't line up. This tool cuts mathematically even tiles with your device's own HTML5 canvas, optionally squaring the cells so each post is a clean square. Download tiles one at a time or as a single ZIP, then upload them bottom-right first to rebuild the image on your profile. Nothing is ever uploaded to a server, it works offline and it's free, forever.

  • Split into a 3×3 grid for a seamless Instagram profile grid, or a 3×1 / 2×2 / 2×1 preset in one click.
  • Build custom grids up to 20 rows by 20 columns for banners, carousels and tile mosaics.
  • Square each cell automatically so every Instagram post lands as a perfect square.
  • Choose Cover or Contain to control how your image fills the grid, crop to fill, or fit with transparent padding.
  • Preview the grid overlay live so you see exactly where the cuts fall before you slice.
  • Download individual tiles or the whole set as one ZIP, named tile-row-col.png for easy reassembly.

Four steps, no manual.

  1. Drop your image onto the upload area, or click to browse, it never leaves your device.
  2. Pick a grid preset (3×3 Instagram, 3×1 strip, 2×2, 2×1) or enter custom rows and columns.
  3. Toggle Square cells and choose Cover or Contain; the preview overlay re-renders instantly.
  4. Click Slice into tiles, then download them one by one or grab them all as a ZIP.

Frequently asked questions.

Is the Image Splitter free?
Yes, completely free for everyone. No sign-up, no account and no usage limits.
Is it private? Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No upload, ever. The splitter runs entirely in your browser on your own device, so your image never leaves your computer, the tiles are cut locally with the HTML5 canvas.
How do I rebuild the grid on my Instagram profile?
Instagram fills your grid from the newest post backwards. Upload the tiles in reverse reading order, start with the bottom-right tile and finish with the top-left, so they land in the right cells. The tiles are named tile-row-col.png to make the order easy to follow.
What's the difference between Cover and Contain?
Cover scales the image to fill the whole grid and centre-crops the overflow, no gaps, but the edges may be trimmed. Contain fits the entire image inside the grid and pads the rest with transparency, so nothing is cut. Turn on Square cells when you want every tile to be a perfect square for Instagram.
What image formats and grid sizes are supported?
Drop JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF. You can split into anything from a 2×1 strip up to a 20×20 grid, 400 tiles. Every tile is exported as a PNG so transparency is preserved, and the full set downloads as a single ZIP.
Does it work offline?
Yes, once the page has loaded, splitting, previewing and downloading all work without a connection, because every step runs locally in your browser.
