How weighted grades work
Each category contributes its score × weight; the total divided by the weight covered is your current grade. For the final-exam math: if the final is worth w% and you’re sitting at G%, finishing with target T% requires (T − G×(1−w/100)) ÷ (w/100) on the exam. Anything over 100% is mathematically out of reach, and at 0% the grade may already be secured. All of it runs in your browser, free forever. How to use the Grade Calculator
This calculator works out your current course grade from weighted categories and tells you what you need on the final exam to reach a target. It multiplies each score by its weight, divides by the weight graded so far, and maps the result to a letter using a cutoff scale you can edit. It is for students who want a clear answer to the question of what score the final needs.

Enter your categories
Each row is one part of the course, such as homework or a midterm. Type a name, its Weight % from your syllabus, and your Score % so far. The page starts with three sample rows: Homework at 20%, Quizzes at 20% and Midterm exam at 40%. Press + Add category for another row, or the cross at the end of a row to remove it.

Leave unscored parts blank
If a category has a weight but no score yet, leave Score % empty. It is left out of your current grade, so the grade reflects only the work that has been marked. Scores above 100% are accepted for extra credit.

Check the weights
The line under the buttons adds your category weights to the final exam weight. It shows a check mark when they total 100% and a warning when they do not, so you can spot a missing or mistyped weight.

Set the final exam
Under What do I need on the final?, type the Final exam weight % (the default is 20) and a Custom target grade % (the default is 90). The final exam should not be one of the rows above, or it will be counted twice.

Match your syllabus cutoffs
Open Letter grade cutoffs (editable) and change the minimum percentage for any letter from A+ to D-. Anything below the lowest cutoff is an F. Press Restore standard scale to go back to 97 for A+, 93 for A, 90 for A- and so on down to 60 for D-.

Copy or start over
Press Copy summary for a plain text list of your categories, current grade and final exam result. Press Reset and confirm to clear every row and put the cutoffs and the final exam fields back to their defaults.
Reading the result
- The green box at the top shows your Current weighted grade and its letter. With the sample rows the grade is 83.3%, a B: (92 × 20 + 85 × 20 + 78 × 40) divided by 80.
- The chips under Required final score by target show what the final needs for the A, B, C and D cutoffs. With the samples and a final worth 20%, a B needs 82% and a C needs 32%.
- A chip that says already secured means you reach that letter even with a zero on the final. In the sample, D is already secured because 83.25% of the other 80% of the course is 66.6%.
- A red chip marked unreachable, or a custom target result marked not possible, means you would need more than 100% on the final. The sample 90% target needs 117%, so the tool shows the best possible finish instead: 86.6% with a perfect final.
- The required score uses this formula: target minus current grade times the share of the course outside the final, all divided by the final's share. For a 90% target that is (90 minus 66.6) divided by 0.2.
Tips and common mistakes
- Enter scores as percentages, not points. 45 out of 50 is 90.
- If your course drops the lowest quiz or curves grades, apply that before you type the score. The calculator does not do it for you.
- Letters with a plus or minus are only used for your current grade. The final exam chips always use the plain A, B, C and D cutoffs.
- If the weights do not add up to 100%, check the syllabus again before you trust the final exam numbers.
Privacy and limits
All the math runs in your browser. Your categories, cutoffs and final exam settings are saved in this browser's local storage so they are there when you come back, and nothing is sent to a server. Clearing your site data removes them, and pressing Reset replaces them with the starting defaults and one empty row.
