Wix is an excellent starter platform for small stores but hits a ceiling around $50K to $200K per year in ecommerce revenue. The ceiling shows up as: limited app ecosystem (about 500 ecommerce apps vs Shopify's 8,000), basic inventory management without multi-location, limited shipping rules, limited checkout customization, and SEO primitives that are less mature than Shopify's.

Yes. Wix blog posts migrate to Shopify's native blog with the full post body, featured image, published date, and author preserved. Permalinks change format (Wix uses /post/{slug}, Shopify uses /blogs/news/{handle}) but every indexed URL gets a 301 redirect to its Shopify equivalent, so search rankings transfer. For merchants with 50+ blog posts, content migration runs in parallel with commerce migration and typically extends the project by 3 to 5 days.

Customer records migrate with email, name, and address. Passwords do not transfer (different hashing), so customers receive a one-time password reset email during cutover week. If you were running Wix's marketing email, subscriber consent state migrates to Klaviyo with the original opt-in timestamp preserved. Historical order data imports to Shopify as read-only records so your customer service team can look up past purchases. New orders from cutover onward flow through the Shopify checkout normally.

Wix themes do not port; Wix uses a proprietary page builder that does not map to Shopify's Liquid template system. We rebuild on a Shopify Dawn-derived theme, carrying over your brand colours, typography, photography, and section layouts. The rebuild is faster than a Magento or BigCommerce theme rebuild because Wix sites tend to be smaller with fewer bespoke sections.

Yes, with engineered safeguards. Every indexed Wix URL gets a 301 redirect to its Shopify equivalent before DNS flips. Canonical tags, meta descriptions, title tags, and JSON-LD structured data all migrate or rebuild on Shopify. We file a change of address in Google Search Console immediately after cutover. Blog permalink structure changes format but every URL maps cleanly.
