Every thumbnail, straight from Google's CDN

Every YouTube video has a set of pre-rendered thumbnail images stored on YouTube's own image CDN at i.ytimg.com. This tool reads the 11-character video ID from your link and builds the direct image URL for each size, from a tiny 120×90 default up to 1280×720 HD. The images come straight from Google's servers to your browser; nothing passes through us. Thumbnails belong to their creators, so respect copyright when you reuse them.

Four steps, no signup.

  1. Paste a YouTube link, a watch URL, youtu.be short link, Shorts, embed, live link, or the bare 11-character video ID.
  2. Click Get thumbnails (or press Enter). Every available size loads instantly from YouTube's CDN.
  3. Click Download on any card to save that size as a .jpg to your device.

Frequently asked questions.

Is the YouTube Thumbnail Downloader free?
Yes, completely free for everyone. No sign-up, no account and no usage limits.
Is it private? Is my link uploaded anywhere?
No upload. The tool runs entirely in your browser, the link you paste is only used to build the public thumbnail URL on YouTube's image CDN. Nothing is sent to our servers.
Where do the thumbnails come from?
Thumbnails are served directly from YouTube's own public image CDN (i.ytimg.com). This tool simply builds the correct URL for each resolution from the video ID.
Why is the HD (maxres) thumbnail sometimes missing?
Not every video has a maxresdefault (1280×720) image, it depends on the resolution the creator uploaded. When it's missing it's hidden automatically, and you can still download the other sizes.
Can I use these thumbnails however I like?
Thumbnails are owned by the video's creator and are subject to copyright. Use them for reference, fair use, or with permission, not to re-publish someone else's content as your own.
Can I paste just the video ID instead of a full link?
Yes. Paste the bare 11-character ID (for example the part after v=) and it works exactly like a full URL. Watch, youtu.be, Shorts, embed and live links are all recognised too.
