White noise & ambience. Synthesized, not streamed.

Nothing plays until you click a sound (browsers require a tap to start audio). Everything is generated locally, it even works offline.

The mix fades out gently over the last 15 seconds, then stops. Keep this tab open while playing, some phones pause audio in background tabs or when the screen locks.

Export your mix as WAV

Renders the sounds that are currently playing, at their current volumes, into a downloadable 16-bit stereo WAV (~10 MB per minute). Loop it in any player.

No samples, no streaming, pure synthesis

Ambience sites usually stream big audio loops from a server. Here, white noise is a buffer of cryptographically random samples; pink and brown run that randomness through filtering integrators so the energy shifts toward lower frequencies; rain is band-passed noise sprinkled with randomized droplet blips; the fan is a low hum plus band-passed noise with a blade-rate wobble; and the ocean swells with slow LFOs on gain and filter. It all runs through the Web Audio API on your device, private, offline-capable, and free.

How to use White Noise & Ambience

This page plays white, pink and brown noise plus rain, fan and ocean sounds, and lets you layer them into one mix. Every sound is generated live by your browser's Web Audio engine from random numbers and filters, so nothing is streamed. Use it to mask office chatter while you focus, or with the sleep timer at night.

Step by step

  1. Start a sound

Press Play on any of the six cards: White noise, Pink noise, Brown noise, Rain, Fan or Ocean. Nothing plays until you press a button, because browsers block sound that starts on its own. The sound fades in over a moment.

  2. Layer more sounds

Press Play on other cards to add them to the mix. Each card's button changes to Stop while it plays, and the line next to Stop all counts how many sounds are playing.

  3. Balance the volumes

Drag the Volume slider on each card, from 0 to 100%. The starting levels range from 55% for white noise to 75% for ocean. Master volume, at 80% to start, sets the level of the whole mix.

  4. Set a sleep timer

Under Sleep timer press 15 min, 30 min, 60 min or 90 min, or type a number of minutes from 1 to 720 in Custom and press Set. The countdown appears on the right. Press Cancel to clear it.

  5. Stop everything

Press Stop all to fade out every sound at once, or press Stop on a single card.

  6. Export the mix as a file

Start the sounds you want, choose a Length of 30 seconds, 1 minute or 3 minutes under Export your mix as WAV, and press Download WAV. The file holds the sounds that are playing, at their current volumes.

Reading the result

  • The countdown shows the time left in minutes and seconds, with hours added for long timers. In the last 15 seconds the mix fades out, then every sound stops on its own.
  • The exported file is a 16 bit stereo WAV at 44.1 kHz, about 10 MB per minute, so 3 minutes comes to about 30 MB. Its name lists the sounds in the mix and the length, such as ambience-pink-rain-60s.wav.
  • If your browser cannot generate sound, a message saying sound generation is not available replaces the controls. Try a current Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Start with pink or brown noise if white noise sounds harsh. They put more energy into low frequencies and are easier to listen to for long sessions.
  • Keep the tab open and the screen on when you use the sleep timer on a phone. Some phones pause audio in background tabs or when the screen locks.
  • The sleep timer does not start any sound. Press Play on the sounds you want before or after you set it.
  • Download WAV only works while at least one sound is playing. The file fades in and out over a fraction of a second at each end so it does not click, so a looping player may leave a very short dip at the loop point.
  • Set the volume low and raise it slowly. Noise played loud for hours can tire your ears.

Privacy and limits

Every sound is synthesized on your device with the Web Audio API. No audio files are downloaded, nothing is uploaded, and no settings are saved, so reloading the page resets the volumes. It keeps working offline once the page has loaded.
