How to use the Digital Business Card (vCard QR)

This tool turns your contact details into a QR code that saves you to someone's phone in one scan. It writes your details as a vCard 3.0 contact, the format phones and email apps import, and draws that text as a QR code in your browser. Use it on business cards, event badges, slides, email signatures or a shop counter sign.

Step by step

   Replace the sample details

   The form opens filled in with an example contact, Ada Lovelace. Overwrite First name, Last name, Organization, Job title, Mobile phone, Email and Website with your own, and clear any field you do not want on the card.

   Add an address, if you want one

   Fill in Street, City, Region / State, Postal code and Country under Address. They are optional; leave them all blank and no address is added.

   Check the preview

   The QR code and the contact card preview update a moment after you stop typing. The card shows your initials, name, title and organization, plus phone, email, website and address rows.

   Test the QR code

   Point a phone camera at the code on screen. The phone should offer to add the contact. Check that every field came through before you print or share it.

   Download or copy

   Press Download .vcf contact for a contact file you can attach to an email, PNG for an image for slides and signatures, or SVG for a sharp image at any print size. Copy vCard text puts the raw contact text on your clipboard. Files are named after your first and last name.

Reading the result

• The QR code holds the full contact, not a link. Anyone can scan it offline and it never stops working, but changing a detail means making and printing a new code.
• The more fields you fill, the denser the code gets. If it cannot fit, a message says Too much data for one QR, try fewer fields, and the code is cleared.
• In the vCard text, your phone is saved as a mobile number, your email as an internet address, and the address, if any, as a work address.
• The name the phone shows is your first and last name. If both are empty, it uses the organization instead.

Tips and common mistakes

• Write the phone number with the country code, such as +1 555 123 4567, so it dials correctly from abroad.
• Enter the website in full with https:// so every phone treats it as a link.
• Print the code large enough to scan from arm's length and keep the white border around it. A dense code with an address needs more room than a short one.
• If scanning is slow or fails, leave out the address or the job title to make the code less dense.

Privacy and limits

The vCard and the QR code are built in your browser with a QR encoder that is part of the page. Nothing you type is uploaded or saved, so reloading the page brings back the sample contact. A QR code can hold only a limited amount of text, which caps how much you can put on one card.
