How to use the Tip & Bill Splitter
This calculator works out the tip on a bill and splits the total evenly between up to 99 people. It multiplies the bill by your tip percentage, adds the two, and divides by the number of people, updating every figure as you type. It is for restaurant tables, group trips and anyone settling a shared bill.

Enter the bill
Type the amount into Bill amount. Pick a symbol from the currency menu next to it: $ USD (the default), EUR, GBP, INR, JPY, AUD, CAD or None. The menu only changes the symbol shown; nothing is converted.

Choose the tip
Under Tip percentage, press 10%, 15%, 18%, 20% or 25%. The tip starts at 20%. For any other whole percentage from 0 to 50, drag the slider below the buttons; the number beside it shows the value.

Set the number of people
Under Number of people, use the minus and plus buttons (Fewer people and More people) to set a count from 1 to 99. It starts at 1.

Round up if you want clean amounts
Check Round up each person's share to a whole number so everyone pays a whole amount. A note under the breakdown says how much extra that collects over the true total.

Read the split
The green card shows what each person pays. Below it are the Tip amount, the Total bill (with tip), the Tip per person and the Subtotal per person.
Reading the result
- Each person pays is the bill plus tip, divided by the number of people. A $100 bill with a 20% tip split 3 ways is $120.00 in total, or $40.00 each.
- Tip per person and Subtotal per person break that share down. In the same example each person pays $6.67 of tip and $33.33 of the bill.
- Tip amount also shows the percentage used, for example $20.00 (20%).
- With round up on, the card shows the rounded share and the total it collects. At 18% the same bill is $118.00, or $39.33 each, which rounds up to $40.00 and collects $2.00 extra.
- Amounts are rounded to two decimal places for display, so the per person figures can add up to a cent or two more or less than the total.
Tips and common mistakes
- The tip is worked out on the amount you type. If you want to tip on the pre-tax amount, enter the bill before tax and add the tax yourself.
- The split is always even. If people ordered very different amounts, use the tool for each person's own subtotal instead.
- Some bills already include a service charge. Check the receipt before adding a tip on top.
- Round up is a quick way to leave a small buffer for card fees or a slightly bigger tip without doing the math.
Privacy and limits
All the math runs in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded, and the tool does not save it, so the people count and tip go back to 1 and 20% when you reload the page. Every currency is shown with two decimal places, including JPY.
