How to use the Resume Builder

This builder turns a short form into a one column resume and saves it as a US Letter PDF with real, selectable text. The white page beside the form shows the layout as you type, and the PDF is made in your browser by the pdf-lib library, which this site hosts itself. It suits anyone who needs a plain resume that applicant tracking systems can read.

Step by step

  1. Start from the example or a blank page

    On a first visit the form holds a sample resume for Jordan Rivera so you can see the format. Type over it, or press Clear and then Clear everything to empty the form. Load example brings the sample back at any time.

  2. Fill in the contact block

    Enter your Full name, a Headline / title, Email, Phone, Location and one link in Website / LinkedIn. Anything you leave empty is left off the page, except the name, which shows as Your Name until you fill it in.

  3. Write the summary

    Put two or three sentences in Professional summary: what you do, for how long and what you are good at.

  4. Add your experience

    Press + Add experience for each job. Fill in Role / title, Company, Start and End, then write one result per line in Achievements (one per line). Each line becomes a bullet. Use the cross at the top right of a block to remove it.

  5. Add education and skills

    Press + Add education and fill in Degree / program, School, Year and, if you like, Detail (optional). Then type your Skills separated by commas. The preview shows them as tags, and the PDF prints them as a comma separated line.

  6. Download the PDF

    Press Download PDF. The file is named after you, for example jordan-rivera-resume.pdf, and a message tells you how many pages it has. Long resumes continue onto extra pages.

Reading the result

  • The preview uses the same order as the PDF: name, headline, contact line, then Summary, Experience, Education and Skills. A section with nothing in it is left out.
  • Dates print on the right of each job line as Start and End joined by a comma, for example 2021, Present.
  • The note under Your resume reads Saved locally with a time each time your changes are stored. If it says Save failed, your browser blocked storage, so download the PDF before you leave.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Entries appear in the order you add them and cannot be moved, so add your most recent job first.
  • Start each achievement with a verb and include a number where you have one, such as a percentage, a count or a time saved.
  • The PDF font only covers plain English letters, digits and common punctuation. Accented letters such as é or ñ, and other scripts, are dropped from the PDF even though the preview shows them, so check names and places before sending.
  • Load example replaces everything in the form and your saved copy at once, without asking first. Download your own PDF before you press it.
  • Keep the contact block to what an employer needs. A street address is rarely necessary; a city and region is enough.

Privacy and limits

Everything runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere. Your resume is saved in this browser's local storage after each change and reloads next time you visit on the same device and browser. Clearing this site's data removes it. The PDF library loads from this site when the page opens.

Is it private? Is my resume uploaded anywhere?
No upload, ever. The builder runs entirely in your browser on your own device, your name, contact details and work history never leave your computer, and the PDF is generated locally and written straight to your disk.
What makes the resume ATS-friendly?
Applicant tracking systems parse single-column layouts with real text most reliably, multi-column designs, icons, graphics and text-in-images often get scrambled or dropped. This builder sticks to one column, standard section headings (Summary, Experience, Education, Skills) and a native PDF text layer, so the machines read exactly what you wrote.
Does it export a real PDF?
Yes. The export runs pdf-lib (MIT license, self-hosted on this site) in your browser to build a US-Letter PDF with embedded fonts, right-aligned dates and proper word-wrapping, not an HTML page saved as PDF. Long resumes flow onto additional pages automatically, and the file is named after you (for example jordan-rivera-resume.pdf).
Will I lose my draft if I close the tab?
No, every edit autosaves to this browser and your draft reloads when you come back. Clearing this site's browsing data removes it, so download the PDF when you finish a version you want to keep.
Can I add multiple jobs and schools?
Yes, as many as you need. Click + Add experience or + Add education for each entry, write one achievement bullet per line in the achievements box, and remove any entry with its ✕ button. List roles most recent first.
