Leave blank for the dimensions. Use {W} and {H}.

Blank = auto-fit to image.

Generated entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

Built for devs & designers

Need a 1200×630 social card, a square avatar block or a banner-ad slot while you wire up layout? Generate a labelled placeholder at the exact pixel dimensions, grab a PNG or a scalable SVG, and drop it straight into your mockup — no account, no watermark, no server round-trip. The label field accepts {W} and {H} tokens so the text tracks the size, and the font auto-fits unless you set one explicitly.

§ 02 · what you can do

Everything a placeholder should do.

  • Set exact pixel dimensions from 1px to 5000px wide or tall — type them in or use a quick-size preset.
  • Choose any background and text color with the color picker or by typing a hex code (both stay in sync).
  • Add a custom label or let it default to the dimensions — use {W} and {H} tokens to keep it in step with the size.
  • Jump to 8 quick-size presets including OG image, social square, 16:9, leaderboard, banner, avatar, hero and story.
  • Export as PNG for raster use or SVG for infinitely scalable vector output, with auto-fit or fixed font size.
  • Copy the data URL to paste straight into CSS, HTML or a design tool — no file to manage.
§ 03 · how to use it

Four steps, no signup.

  1. Set the width and height in pixels, or click a quick-size preset to fill them for you.
  2. Pick a background and text color — via the swatch or a hex code — then type an optional label.
  3. Choose an auto or fixed font size and whether you want PNG or SVG output; the preview updates live.
  4. Click Download to save the file, or Copy data URL to paste the image inline.
§ 04 · faq

Frequently asked questions.

Is the placeholder image generator free?
Yes — completely free for everyone. No sign-up, no account, no watermark and no usage limits.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Every image is drawn locally in your browser with the Canvas and SVG APIs, so nothing is ever sent to a server — your work never leaves your device.
Should I export PNG or SVG?
Use PNG for a fixed-resolution raster you can drop into most mockups and image slots. Use SVG when you want a tiny, infinitely scalable vector that stays crisp at any size — ideal for responsive layouts.
What is the data URL for?
Copy data URL puts the whole image inline as a data: string. Paste it into a CSS background-image, an HTML img src, or a design tool without saving a separate file.
What is the largest size I can make?
Up to 5000px on either side. Enter any width and height in that range; the tool clamps out-of-range values so you always get a usable image.
