How to use the Photo Border & Frame tool

This tool draws borders, mattes, rounded corners, polaroid captions, shadows and backgrounds around your photos with the browser's canvas, and applies the same look to every photo you load. You set the look once, check it in the preview, then download one image or the whole batch as a ZIP. It suits product shots, social posts, galleries and printed keepsakes.

Step by step

   Add photos

   Drop one or more images on Drop photos here, or click to choose them. JPG, PNG and WebP work, and each photo appears as a thumbnail in the batch strip below the editor.

   Set the border and matte

   Under Border, drag Width from 0 to 160 px (default 18) and pick a color swatch, Transparent or the custom color picker. Under Matte (inner padding), set a Width from 0 to 240 px for space between the border and the photo, and pick its color.

   Shape the corners

   Use Frame radius to round the outer edge and Photo radius to round the photo itself, each from 0 to 120 px.

   Add a polaroid caption

   Tick Polaroid mode (thick bottom bar) for a deeper bottom edge; Bottom bar runs from 30 to 320 px and starts at 110. Type up to 80 characters in Caption, then set Caption font, Caption size and Caption color. The bar takes the matte color.

   Add a shadow and background

   Tick Drop shadow and set Blur, Offset Y and Opacity. Under Background, pick transparent, a solid color or one of six gradients. The canvas grows to make room for the shadow.

   Choose aspect and format

   Under Output aspect pick Original, Square 1:1, 4:5 or Custom with your own ratio. Choose PNG or JPG and a 0.5×, 1× or 2× scale; for JPG, set JPG quality from 30 to 100%.

   Export

   Press Copy to put the selected photo on the clipboard as a PNG, Download this for the selected photo, or Download all (.zip) for the whole batch; with one photo loaded it saves that image without a ZIP. Click any thumbnail to preview that photo instead. Each thumbnail also has its own Download button and a button to remove it.

Reading the result

• The line under the export buttons shows the final size, for example Output 1036 × 836 px · PNG for a 1000 × 800 photo with the default 18 px border at 1×.
• Border, matte and caption sizes are in pixels of the original photo, and the export scale multiplies photo and frame alike. The same 18 px border looks thinner on a large camera image than on a small screenshot.
• Aspect ratios never crop the photo. The tool extends the canvas with the background until the frame fits the ratio you chose.
• The preview is drawn smaller for speed. Downloads are rendered at full resolution times the export scale.

Tips and common mistakes

• Use PNG when the background or border is transparent. JPG cannot store transparency, so the tool fills those areas with white.
• One look applies to every photo. If one photo needs different settings, download it with Download this first, then change the controls for the rest.
• Photos of different sizes get the same pixel border, so it looks proportionally different on each. Resize them to a similar size first for a matching set.
• Long captions are squeezed to fit the bar rather than wrapped onto a second line, so keep them short.
• If Copy fails, your browser does not allow images on the clipboard here. Use Download this instead.

Privacy and limits

Framing, previews and exports all run in your browser with the canvas. Photos are never uploaded and nothing is saved, so Clear all or closing the tab removes them. The ZIP is built in the page without compression, so its size is about the total of the images inside it.
