How to use the Social / OG Image Maker

This maker draws a share card, the picture that appears when a link is posted on X, LinkedIn, Slack or in a chat app. You type a title, subtitle and a short line above the title, pick a background and colors, and the card is drawn live on a canvas in your browser. When it looks right you save it as a PNG at the exact size you chose.

Step by step

1. 1
   Write the text

   Replace the sample words in Title, Subtitle and Eyebrow / handle. The title is the large text; the subtitle sits under it; the eyebrow is a small line above the title, shown in capitals in the accent color. Leave Subtitle or Eyebrow / handle empty to drop that line.

   Pick a background

   Click a swatch under Background preset: Moss to Amber (the default), Deep Moss, Cream, Ink, Sunrise or Slate. The last swatch, Custom colors, shows Color A and Color B so you can set your own two gradient colors.

   Choose the size

   Use Size preset to pick 1200 × 630 for Open Graph and X cards (the default), 1080 × 1080 for a square post, or 1600 × 900 for a wide 16:9 image. The size is shown under the preview.

   Set alignment and colors

   Choose Left or Center in Text alignment. Adjust Text color for the title and subtitle, and Accent color for the bar and the eyebrow. Untick Show accent bar to remove the short bar at the top.

   Export the card

   Press Export PNG to download the card. The file is named after the size, for example social-image-1200x630.png, and matches the preview pixel for pixel.

Reading the result

• The title sizes itself: it starts large and shrinks until its lines fit the space above the subtitle. It uses at most four lines, so a title that needs more is cut with an ellipsis at the end of the fourth line.
• The subtitle uses up to two lines and is cut with an ellipsis after that.
• Every card has a small Made with Digital Heroes label and dot at the bottom edge. It is part of the layout and there is no setting to remove it.
• The exported PNG is exactly the chosen size, such as 1200 × 630 px. It is not scaled up for high density screens.

Tips and common mistakes

• Pick the background before you fine tune colors. Choosing a preset resets Text color and Accent color to that preset's own pair.
• Keep the title to about ten words. A shorter title stays at a large size and is easier to read in a small link preview.
• Keep the eyebrow short, such as a domain or a handle. It is drawn on a single line and does not wrap.
• Check contrast on light backgrounds such as Cream. If you change Text color, make sure it still stands out from the background.
• After you upload the image to your site, point your og:image tag at it and test the link in a share preview tool, since platforms cache old images.

Privacy and limits

The card is drawn on a canvas in your browser. Your text is not uploaded and nothing is saved, so it is gone once you close the tab. The only file created is the PNG you download.
