Meme generator. Impact captions, zero uploads.
Tip: drag either caption directly on the image to move it.
A meme maker that respects your privacy
Most online meme generators upload your image to a server and slap on a watermark. This one draws everything on a local canvas, your image never leaves the browser, there's no watermark, and it keeps working offline once the page has loaded. Classic Impact captions, draggable text, an instant PNG export, all free forever.
How to use the Meme Generator
This generator puts classic meme captions, white Impact style text with a black outline, on any image or on a plain colored square. You type the top and bottom lines, drag them where you want them and download a PNG at the image's full size. Everything is drawn on a canvas in your browser.
Step by step
-
Choose a background
Drop an image on the box that says Drop an image here, or click it to browse. No photo handy? Click one of the Blank canvas swatches, white, black, green, amber or blue, for a 1000 by 1000 pixel square.
-
Write the captions
Type into Top text and Bottom text, replacing the samples ONE DOES NOT SIMPLY and UPLOAD A MEME TO A SERVER. Leave a field empty to drop that caption. Long lines wrap on their own to fit the width.
-
Set the size and case
Move Font size between 3 and 18 percent of the image's shorter side; the default is 8. ALL CAPS starts ticked, so untick it to keep your own capital letters.
-
Move the text
Drag on the image to move a caption. The tool grabs whichever caption is closer, top to bottom, to where you press, and it works with a mouse, a pen or a finger. Press Reset positions to put both captions back at the top and bottom.
-
Download
Press Download meme to save meme.png. The file has the same pixel size as your image, or 1000 by 1000 for a blank canvas, and carries no watermark.
What you get
- The PNG is drawn at the image's own resolution, so a 3000 pixel wide photo gives a 3000 pixel wide meme. The text scales with it, because font size is a share of the image, not a fixed size.
- Text uses Impact if your device has it, then Anton, Arial Narrow or Haettenschweiler, then a plain sans serif. On a device without Impact the captions use the next font in that list, so the same meme can look different on a phone and a laptop.
Tips and common mistakes
- Keep captions short. Two or three words a line read better than a full sentence squeezed into small text.
- If the wrong caption moves when you drag, press closer to the height of the line you want.
- Opening a new image or picking a blank canvas puts both captions back in their default places, but keeps the text you typed.
- Only use images you have the right to share. The tool adds text and nothing else.
Privacy and limits
The image is read and drawn by your browser on a local canvas. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is saved, so closing the tab clears your work. The PNG is created on your device when you download it.
