Troubleshooting

            

              

                No permission prompt appears
                
Your browser may have remembered a "Block" choice. Click the camera/mic icon in the address bar (or the padlock) and set both to Allow, then reload. On Windows, also check Settings → Privacy → Camera/Microphone.

              

              

                The mic meter doesn't move
                
Pick the right device in the dropdown (laptops often list several). Check the physical mute switch/key, and make sure another app (Zoom, Teams) isn't holding the mic exclusively.

              

              

                The camera preview is black
                
Close other apps using the camera, check the privacy shutter/slider many laptops have, and try a different resolution. External webcams may need replugging.

              

              

                I hear nothing in the speaker test
                
Raise the volume slider here and the system volume, check the output device in your OS sound settings, and unmute. Bluetooth headsets sometimes switch to a low-quality mode when the mic is in use, stop the mic test first.

              

              

                Left/right are swapped
                
Your headphones may be on backwards (seriously, check the L/R markings), or the audio jack/adapter is miswired. Some operating systems also offer a channel-swap accessibility setting.

This is the fastest way to confirm your microphone, webcam and speakers work before a call, interview or recording, no downloads, no sign-up. The mic tab shows a live level meter, a scrolling waveform and a peak reading, plus a five-second record-and-play-back so you can hear yourself. The camera tab reports your actual output resolution and frame rate (not just what you asked for) and lets you grab a snapshot. The speaker tab plays independent left and right tones and a 200 Hz → 8 kHz sweep to catch balance and range problems. Frequently asked questions.

          

            

              Is the Mic & Webcam Test free?
              
Yes, completely free for everyone. No sign-up, no account and no usage limits.

            

            

              Is it private? Is my audio or video uploaded anywhere?
              
No upload, ever. The mic, camera and speaker tests all run in your browser on your own device, your audio and video never leave your computer, and the 5-second recording only exists in memory until you close the page.

            

            

              Why does it ask for camera and microphone permission?
              
Browsers require your explicit permission before any page can read a camera or microphone, that's the point of the test. Access is only requested when you click Start, and stops the moment you press Stop or leave the page. Nothing is saved.

            

            

              Why does the camera show a different resolution than I chose?
              
The dropdown is a request, the browser picks the closest mode your camera actually supports. The readout shows the true output resolution and frame rate the camera delivered, which is what matters for calls and recordings.

            

            

              Do I need to install anything or create an account?
