Is the Image Upscaler free?

Yes — completely free for everyone. No sign-up, no account and no usage limits.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The upscaler runs entirely in your browser on your own device using the native canvas — your photos never leave your computer and nothing is sent to a server.

Does it add detail like an AI upscaler?

No — and that is deliberate. It uses multi-step progressive resampling plus an unsharp mask, so edges stay smooth and faithful to your original. It never hallucinates faces, text or textures that were not in the photo.

How big can I upscale?

Each side is capped at 12,000 px. Above 8,000 px on a side you will see a warning, because very large outputs are slow and can exhaust memory on some devices — pick a smaller target if you hit it.

Which format should I export?

Use PNG for lossless quality and transparency, WebP for the smallest file at good quality, or JPG for broad compatibility. For JPG and WebP a quality slider lets you trade file size against sharpness.

Does it work offline?

Yes — once the page has loaded, upscaling, comparing and exporting all work without a connection because every step runs locally in your browser.
