A GPA is not a plain average, a 4-credit calculus course moves it more than a 1-credit lab. This calculator multiplies each grade's point value by its credit hours, sums the quality points, and divides by the graded credits, exactly the way registrars do it. Plus and minus grades carry their real values (an A− is 3.7, a B+ is 3.3), Pass courses count toward earned credits without touching the average, and every keystroke recalculates the semester and cumulative numbers instantly. How to use the GPA Calculator
This calculator works out a weighted GPA on the US 4.0 scale, with plus and minus grades. It multiplies each grade's points by the course's credit hours, adds them up and divides by the graded credits, for each semester and across all of them. Use it to check a transcript, plan the grades you need next term, or see how one course moves your average.

Replace the example courses
The calculator opens with four example courses in Semester 1. Type over each Course name, set the Credits, and pick the Grade from the list. Credits go up in steps of 0.5, so a 1.5-credit lab works.

Choose each grade
The Grade list runs from A (4.0) down to F (0.0) in plus and minus steps. Under Non-graded, P counts the course toward your credits without touching the GPA, and NP counts it toward nothing.

Add or remove courses
Press + Add course under a semester for a new empty row. Press the x at the end of a row to remove that course. A semester always keeps at least one row, so removing the last course leaves a blank one.

Add more semesters
Press + Add semester to start a new term. Click a semester's name to rename it, for example Fall 2026. Once there is more than one semester, each gets a Remove button and the top panel switches to your Cumulative GPA.

The panel at the top updates as you type. Each semester also shows its own GPA and graded credits on the right of its name.

Reading the result
- With the example courses, Calculus I (4 credits, A), English Composition (3, A-), Intro to Biology (4, B+) and World History (3, B), the quality points are 16 + 11.1 + 13.2 + 9 = 49.3. Divided by 14 graded credits that gives Your GPA 3.52.
- Graded credits are the credits that count in the average. Total credits add Pass courses on top, so a 1-credit P course raises Total credits by 1 and leaves the GPA alone.
- Quality points are grade points times credits, added up. Dividing Quality points by Graded credits gives the GPA shown, rounded to two decimals.
- A dash in place of the GPA means no row is complete yet. A row only counts once it has a letter grade and more than 0 credits.
Tips and common mistakes
- Enter the credit hours from your transcript, not 1 for every course. A 4-credit course moves the GPA more than a 1-credit lab, which is the whole point of weighting.
- This uses the common 4.0 scale, which tops out at A (4.0), has no A+ and gives A- 3.7. Check your school's scale; some give 4.3 for an A+ or use other steps, and the calculator cannot change them.
- An F counts in the average with 0 points. If your school replaces a retaken course, delete the old attempt instead of keeping both.
- To see what you need next term, add the new semester with the grades you expect and watch the Cumulative GPA change.
Privacy and limits
All the math runs in your browser and nothing is sent to any server. Your semesters and courses are saved in this browser's local storage so they survive a reload. Clearing your site data removes them, a private window keeps them only until you close it, and they do not follow you to another device.
