How to use the GIF Maker

This GIF maker turns a set of still images into one animated GIF. Each image becomes a frame, is drawn onto a canvas at the output size you choose, and is then encoded into a GIF by the gif.js library running in your browser. Use it for product demos, simple slideshows, reaction loops or short step by step animations.

Step by step

   Add your images

   Drop PNG, JPG, WebP or GIF files on the card that says Drop images here, or click it to pick files. You can add several at once and add more later. You need at least 2 frames before you can build.

   Put the frames in order

   The Frames panel shows each image as a numbered card. Drag a card to a new spot, or use the up and down arrows under it. The cross button removes that frame. The GIF plays the cards in number order.

   Set the timing

   Move the Frame delay slider to set how long every frame shows, from 20 to 2000 ms. The default is 300 ms. Tick Per-frame delay to give each card its own delay box instead; each box starts at the global delay that was set when that image was added.

   Choose the size

   Pick Output size. Match first frame uses the size of frame 1, and Fit largest frame uses the widest and tallest sizes among your frames. Custom W×H lets you type Width (px) and Height (px), each from 8 to 2000 with 480 as the default, and choose a Scaling mode: Contain (letterbox), Cover (crop) or Stretch.

   Set quality and looping

   The Quality slider runs from 1 to 30 with 10 as the default. Lower numbers give better color and bigger files. Leave Loop forever ticked for an endless loop, or untick it so the GIF plays once and stops.

   Build and download

   Press Build GIF and watch the progress bar. When it finishes, the preview appears under Your GIF. Press Download GIF to save it as animation.gif. Press Clear to remove every frame and start over.

Reading the result

• The line next to Your GIF shows the output size in pixels, the number of frames and the file size, so you can check the GIF is small enough before you share it.
• The status line next to the Build GIF button says how many frames are ready, or Add at least 2 frames when there are not enough.
• With Match first frame or Fit largest frame, a frame of a different shape is scaled to fit inside the output, so the whole image stays visible with bars around it.

Tips and common mistakes

• Use images with the same width and height when you can. Mixed shapes get letterboxed, which leaves bars around some frames.
• If the file is too big for chat or email, choose Custom W×H with a smaller size, or raise the Quality number. Fewer frames also help.
• A delay of 20 to 100 ms looks like motion; 500 ms or more works better for slideshows people need to read.
• An animated GIF you add is treated as one still image, so only its first frame ends up in the new GIF.
• Changing settings does not update a GIF you already built. Press Build GIF again to apply them.

Privacy and limits

Your images are read and encoded in your own browser, using encoder files served from this site. Nothing is uploaded or saved, and closing the tab clears your frames. Very large images or many frames take longer and use more memory, so a phone may struggle with big batches.
