Everything a picker should do.

  • Eyedrop any pixel from a JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF just by hovering over the image.
  • Lock a color with a single click, then double-click the image to resume hovering.
  • Copy HEX, RGB or HSL with one click from the color panel, or click any value row to copy inline.
  • Extract a dominant-color palette of up to eight colors from the whole image, then copy them all.
  • Convert any color by typing or pasting a HEX, RGB or HSL value, the fields stay in sync.
  • Browse tints and shades of the selected color and click any band to copy its HEX.
§ 03 · how to use it

Four steps, no manual.

  1. Drop an image onto the box (or click to browse). The file never leaves your device.
  2. Hover over any pixel to preview its color, then click to lock it. Double-click the image to unlock and keep hovering.
  3. Copy the HEX, RGB or HSL value from the panel, or click Extract palette to pull the dominant colors.

Frequently asked questions.

Is the Image Color Picker free?
Yes, completely free for everyone. No sign-up, no account and no usage limits.
Is it private? Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No upload, ever. The picker decodes your image directly into your browser's Canvas on your own device, the file and its pixels never leave your computer.
Does it work offline?
Yes, once the page has loaded, picking colors, extracting a palette and converting values all work without a connection, because everything runs locally.
What's the difference between HEX, RGB and HSL?
They describe the same color three ways. HEX is a six-digit web code like #3F6B54; RGB lists red, green and blue channels; HSL uses hue, saturation and lightness, which is handy for building tints and shades. The picker gives you all three at once.
How does palette extraction pick the colors?
It downscales a copy of the image, buckets the pixels into color groups, ranks them by how often they appear, then drops near-duplicates so the palette feels varied. You get up to eight dominant colors, skipping transparent pixels.
Do I need to install anything or create an account?
No. Just open the page and start picking colors, there's nothing to download and no account to make.
