How to use the Collage Maker

The Collage Maker arranges several photos into one tidy grid and saves it as a PNG. Each photo is cropped from the center to fill its cell, so every cell is covered edge to edge whatever the original shape. Use it for social posts, product roundups, mood boards or a quick family grid.

Step by step

   Add your photos

   Drop image files on the card that says Drop photos here, or click it to pick files. You can select many at once. Files that are not images are skipped. The editor and a live preview appear once the photos load.

   Pick a layout

   Choose a grid from the Layout menu. Auto grid (fit all) is the default and builds a near square grid that holds every photo. The fixed grids, such as 2 × 2, 3 × 3, 1 × 3 (row) and 3 × 1 (column), use only as many photos as they have cells.

   Set the order

   Drag the thumbnails in the tray under the preview to change which photo lands in which cell. Cells fill left to right, top to bottom, in tray order. Press the small × on a thumbnail to remove it, or the + tile to add more photos.

   Choose shape and size

   Pick the Canvas shape: Square (1:1), Landscape (4:3), Wide (16:9) or Portrait (4:5). Then pick the Output size (long edge) of the exported file: 1080, 1600, 2048 or 3000 px. The default is 1600 px.

   Adjust spacing and color

   Move the Gap slider (0 to 80, default 14px) for the space between photos, Corner radius (0 to 80, default 12px) to round each photo, and Outer margin (0 to 120, default 14px) for the border around the grid. Under Background, click a swatch or use the color picker. White is the default.

   Download the collage

   Press Download PNG to save the collage as collage.png at the size you chose. Press Clear all to remove every photo and start again.

Reading the result

• The line under the buttons sums up the grid. With five photos on Auto grid it reads 3 × 2 grid · 5 of 5 photos · export 1600 × 1600 px for a square canvas at the default size.
• If the middle number is lower than the total, some photos are not in the collage. Switch to a larger grid or to Auto grid to include them all.
• The preview is drawn smaller for speed. The download is rendered fresh at the full output size, and the gap, corners and margin scale with it so the look stays the same.

Tips and common mistakes

• Photos are cropped to fill their cells, so keep the subject near the middle of each picture. A face at the edge of a tall photo can be cut off in a wide cell.
• Use Portrait (4:5) for Instagram feed posts and Wide (16:9) for slides, banners and video thumbnails.
• Set the Gap and Outer margin to 0 and the Corner radius to 0 for a grid with no gaps or borders, photo touching photo.
• A dark background with a small gap gives a framed look on light pages. Match the background to where the collage will be posted.

Privacy and limits

The collage is put together in your browser on a canvas. Your photos are not uploaded and nothing is saved, so closing the tab or pressing Clear all removes them. Any image your browser can open works, and the export is always a PNG up to 3000 px on the long edge.
