Custom Shopify app development in three packages

Custom Shopify apps in three packages: one focused job for one store, a private app with its own admin pages and an integration, or the first version of a public App Store app. The code and accounts are yours. Pay in full through Stripe, or book a call to pay a deposit and then milestones.

§ 02 · overview

What these packages cover.

A Shopify app can work in five places: pages embedded in the Shopify admin, theme app blocks on the storefront, checkout UI extensions, Shopify Functions that run inside Shopify, and webhooks that send store events to your own backend. Most apps need two or three of them, not all five. On the kickoff call we agree which ones your app needs and pick the lightest build that does the job.

Basic is one focused job on one store, such as an order automation, a small admin tool or a single Shopify Function. Standard is a private app for your store with its own admin pages, store data, webhooks and one outside service. Premium is the first version of a public app for the Shopify App Store, with installs on any store, Shopify billing, the mandatory privacy webhooks and a prepared submission.

Two Shopify rules shape the choice. The first is Shopify Plus: a custom app that contains a Shopify Function runs only on a Plus store, and checkout extensions on the information, shipping and payment steps are Plus only too. The second is distribution: a privately distributed app cannot charge merchants through Shopify's billing, and Shopify does not let an app change its distribution later. If you plan to sell the app to other stores, start with Premium.

§ 04 · scope

What is not included, and what we need from you.

Not included

  • Shopify plan fees, including Shopify Plus where the app needs it.
  • Hosting, database and outside service fees, billed to you directly by those providers.
  • Shopify's one-time App Store registration fee and its revenue share on app charges.
  • A promise that Shopify approves a public app; its App Review team makes that decision.
  • Work beyond the scope confirmed in writing at the kickoff call, which is agreed separately in writing first.
  • Ongoing maintenance and new features after the 30 days of support.
  • App Store marketing and listing optimization after launch.
  • Theme design or storefront redesign beyond the app's own blocks.
  • A privacy policy, terms and other legal documents for a public app, which come from your own legal adviser.

What we need from you

  • One decision maker who answers questions, approves the written scope and reviews each delivery.
  • Staff or collaborator access to your Shopify store, so we can install and test the app.
  • The Shopify developer account the app is created under, in your name, so the app and its revenue stay yours.
  • A GitHub organization for the code repository.
  • Hosting and outside service accounts in your name, or your approval for us to open them for you.
  • A plain description of the job the app does, with example data and the screens you expect.
  • Shopify Plus on your store if Basic or Standard uses a Shopify Function, or if any package adds a checkout step extension.
  • For Premium: the app name, logo, pricing plan, support contact and privacy policy for the listing.
§ · how delivery works

From payment to handover.

Every package follows the same five steps. The scope changes from Basic to Premium; the order does not.

  1. step 01
    Pay at checkout

You pay the package price in full through Stripe's secure checkout. If you would rather pay a deposit before work starts and then payments at agreed milestones, book a call instead and we set that up with you.

  2. step 02
    Kickoff call

Every order gets an email reply within 24 hours to book the kickoff call. On that call we confirm the scope of your package in writing. Work starts after it.

  3. step 03
    Build

Your project is delivered remotely by our engineers in Delhi and Lucknow, with leadership in New York. The delivery estimate for your package is on its card above. It is an estimate, not a deadline: your dates are confirmed in writing at the kickoff call.

  4. step 04
    Review and revisions

You review the work as it is delivered. Your package card says how revisions are handled: where it says they are agreed in writing, the rounds are set in the written scope at the kickoff call.

  5. step 05
    Handover

The finished work goes live or is handed over in the way agreed at the kickoff call.

Every package starts the same way: we map the data your app reads and writes, the access scopes it needs and the webhooks it listens to, and you approve that plan before any code is written. The app is then built and tested on a development store, and you review it there before it is installed on your live store.

For Premium, we check the app against Shopify's published App Store requirements, prepare the listing and submit it from your account. Shopify's App Review team decides when the app is approved and can reject it at its discretion, so the approval date is not ours to set. Review feedback inside the agreed scope is fixed as part of the package.

Handover includes the repository, a written guide to setting up and running the app, and a recorded walkthrough. Support then runs for 30 days.

§ · payment and refunds

Payment and refund terms.

Paid in full at checkout

Package prices are in US dollars and are charged in full at checkout. Stripe hosts the payment page, so your card details are entered on Stripe and never reach this site.

Prefer milestones?

For fixed-scope work we also bill a deposit before work starts, then payments at agreed milestones. To pay that way, book a call instead of checking out.

What the price covers

The package price is the total you pay us. We add no tax, fee or surcharge at checkout, and the amount Stripe charges is the price on the package card. It pays for our work only. Fees that other companies bill you directly, such as platform plans, app subscriptions, hosting, domains, store registration fees and payment processing on your own sales, are not part of it: the ones this package can involve are listed under not included. Your card issuer may charge its own fee for a payment in US dollars.

Refunds and cancellation

Our refund and cancellation policy applies to every package. You can cancel by written notice at any time: we stop work, deliver everything completed up to that point, and you pay for the work completed and in progress, as the policy sets out. A deliverable that misses its agreed acceptance criteria is reworked at our cost. To ask for a refund, email support@digitalheroes.co.in. We acknowledge the request within two business days, review it within five, and pay an approved refund within fifteen business days, back to the original payment method. Nothing here limits your statutory rights. Our terms of service apply too.

§ · questions

Questions before you check out.

Which package do I need, and does my store need Shopify Plus?

Pick Basic if the app does one job on one store, Standard if your team needs its own admin pages and an integration, and Premium if you want to sell the app on the Shopify App Store. Plus is needed when a custom app contains a Shopify Function, and for any checkout extension on the information, shipping or payment steps. If you are unsure, use the Live Chat or book a call before you pay.

What happens after I pay?

Stripe confirms the payment, and you get an email reply within 24 hours to book the kickoff call. On that call we confirm the scope of your package in writing, including the surfaces, data and screens the app covers. Work starts after the call, once we have access to your store and the accounts listed under what we need from you.

What if the scope changes after the kickoff call?

The package price covers the scope confirmed in writing at the kickoff call. If you need something outside it, we write the change down and agree it with you before building it. If the app you need is bigger than the package you bought, we say so on the kickoff call, before work starts.

How long will my app take?

Standard takes 6 to 10 weeks and Premium 10 to 16 weeks, the ranges our Shopify app development page gives for a private app and a public App Store app. Basic depends on the one job it does, so its estimate is agreed in writing at the kickoff call. Two things can move a date: how quickly feedback and access arrive, and for Premium, how long Shopify's App Review takes.

Who owns the code, the app and the accounts?

You do. The code lives in a private GitHub repository under your organization, and the app, its hosting and any app revenue sit in accounts in your name. Under our terms of service, the work we write for your project is assigned to you on full payment. Reusable components we built before your project stay ours.

What will I pay to other companies on top of the package price?

The package price covers our work only. Your Shopify plan, Shopify Plus if the app needs it, the app's hosting and database, and any outside service it connects to are billed to you by those providers. A public app also carries Shopify's one-time App Store registration fee, and Shopify takes a revenue share on app charges above a lifetime threshold, as its developer terms set out.

Can I get a refund?

Our refund and cancellation policy applies to every package, and the full text is on our refund page. You can cancel by written notice at any time: we stop work, deliver everything completed up to that point, and you pay for the work completed and in progress, as the policy sets out. A deliverable that misses its agreed acceptance criteria is reworked at our cost, and if it still fails after the agreed rework rounds, you can reject it and ask for a refund of the part of the payment tied to it. To ask for a refund, email support@digitalheroes.co.in. We acknowledge the request within two business days, review it within five, and pay an approved refund within fifteen business days, back to the original payment method. Nothing here limits your statutory rights.

What support do I get after the app launches?

Every package includes 30 days of support after handover. After that, ongoing updates can run as a Shopify maintenance plan or as a new piece of work. Plan for some upkeep: Shopify releases a new API version every three months and supports each one for at least 12 months, so an app needs updating from time to time to stay on a supported version.
